Rss Feeds…Help Me Understand
Wow. It’s been too long since I updated here. Lots of stress…life…you know the drill. Random thoughts this morning.
IS THERE VALUE IN DOMAIN NAMES IN 2006?
I’m fascinated by the ‘explosion’ of the internet FEED delivery developments. I’m probably really late to the dance here but everywhere I look I see ATOM/RSS feeds. These feeds, for the one person out there like me who doesn’t have this stuff DOWN, are related to those red [XML] boxes you see on various sites.
This technology started in the blogs, if I have it right, and has become almost ubiquitous. Not only news feeds are prevalent now. Video feeds, photo feeds, etc. are all showing up. Or have they shown up long ago and I just noticed? Probably. Anyway, intrigued by this and by some articles I’ve seen on the resurgence in Domain Name sales, I’ve taken on an experiment to see what’s going on. I’ve registered a few names recently.
I think everyone who watched the Super Bowl probably saw the GoDaddy ads this year or last. I’ve had a few names registered at GoDaddy for years: MY SITE a site I’ve done nothing with, for example. Anyway…with this interest in domain names, etc. I thought the name FEED DADDY, had a funny ring to it. Now I guess if you don’t know what an RSS FEED is, this might sound like a site for older Southern women to go to for recipes. Or somebody out there probably sees it as a *orn site for all I know. I see it as a name for a ATOM/RSS FEED SEARCH site. Am I way too late here? Is the ‘FEED CRAZE’ gone. And what about poor ATOM? I read that in some ways ATOM FEEDS may be superior to RSS feeds. Is this true? Was it true and it didn’t matter. Most sites with FEEDS show both ATOM and RSS, but it seems like most of the references among the general online population lumps everything into ‘RSS’. Is there a significant difference? What is the future of ATOM? Will I get an offer on www.FeedDaddy.com OR is the name good enough that I should keep it and actually develop a FEED SEARCH SITE?
I’m so backward on this stuff that it’s pitiful. Just so many things to take care of. If anyone has any ideas about the FEED issues I’ve raised, please drop me a comment.

Thanks to YOU, I found http://www.FeedDigest.com It will take an RSS feed URL and convert it to a java script so that the feed can run on an my web site.
They have a VARIETY of “templates” so the feed can be matched to the style of the users web site.
In my test I tried a feed that mimics a “Blog” with an appraiser’s forum Blog RSS feed page is at: http://www.ourappraisal.com/WTUGBlog
